Though orchids grow most commonly in ground soil outside of tropical environments in the Amazon orchids grow from both the forest floor and as epiphytes or flowers that grow on a host commonly the branches and limbs of trees.
The orchid family consists of over 25000 species and around 110000 registered hybrids. Most species live in tropical rainforests but they can also be found close to the Arctic Circle. There are some 230 species.
One major reason orchids are so successful in the forest is because they produce tiny seeds measured in microns that number in the hundreds of thousands. Although orchids can grow almost anywhere most. Most orchid species grow in tropical forests but others can be found in semi-desert regions near the seashore and in the tundra.
Some more famous examples are the bird of paradise flower the giant lilys and the carnivorous pitcher plants. Orchids are very common plants in the tropical rainforest. They belong to the family Orchidaceae which is claimed by some authorities to be the largest of the plant families.
Papuan people do not see orchid only as decorative plants. Orchids is one of the biggest plant families. Orchids can be found throughout the world and can survive in different kind of habitats.
Other orchid species found in the tropical rainforest include the apricot orchid fairy bells and jewel orchid. What is the most common plant in the rainforest. Like in all tropical rainforests there are the tall trees vines and epiphytes shorter trees and tree ferns and orchids and other smaller plants on the forest floor.
